The Hidden Face of Guoyue

Traditional Chinese classical music, also known as Hua Xia Zheng Sheng in ancient times and referred to in modern days as Guoyue (national music), is generally seen as distinct from folk songs, regional music, and traditional opera. However, it has been deeply influenced by all these musical forms.

These ancient melodies are rooted in a long and rich historical and cultural heritage, and their traditional notations have been systematically passed down through generations. Even today, musicians still perform based on these ancient scores, and the music remains well-known and passionately appreciated by enthusiasts.

This documentary series will be presented in five episodes, each focusing on a different theme. Through five selected classical compositions, it will explore the music from five perspectives: the pursuit of grand compositions, emotional connections with landscapes, the mysteries of craftsmanship, folk heritage, and choices made at historical crossroads.
