A late summer typhoon looms as Ting’s wedding approaches. A midnight theft unsettles the tranquil life of Ting and her mother. Urged on by her mother, Ting sets out from Guangzhou to Hong Kong to look for her father who has been missing for 20 years.

On her trip, Ting’s vague memories from the past come back to her. When she was eight, her father, who was in the fruit smuggling business, suddenly returned to Hong Kong; no news ever came from him after that. Uncovering the truth of her parent’s marriage, Ting is devastated. She gets in touch with an old acquaintance, Yusheng, who is studying in Hong Kong. They spend a night together at Yusheng’s place, an old-fashioned tenement building; both feel as if they are in a dream.
