Nanyang Film Festival

About Us

Nanyang Film Festival (NFF) is a cinematic platform based in Jakarta, Indonesia, dedicated to fostering cultural dialogue and creative exchange between China and Southeast Asia through film. Founded by Nanyang Bridge Media and supported by partners Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival (JAFF) and FLIX Cinema, NFF showcases compelling stories from across the region, bringing together filmmakers, industry professionals, and audiences through screenings, discussions, and cross-cultural collaborations. NFF aims to become a bridge for emerging Asian voices and a gateway for stories that connect cultures, perspectives, and communities across borders. Beyond cinema, NFF also serves as a dynamic platform where brands, institutions, and communities can meaningfully engage with culturally curious and globally connected audiences across Asia.

Our Mission: Bridging Cinematic Cultures

Nanyang Film Festival (NFF) is dedicated to fostering a collaborative ecosystem that serves as a vital bridge between Chinese cinema and the diverse cultures of Southeast Asia, with a primary focus on Indonesia. By highlighting these regional connections, we aim to facilitate cultural exchange and provide a global stage for authentic narratives that blend Chinese heritage with Southeast Asian perspectives.

Our Background

2026
Festival Launch
Nanyang Film Festival Officially Launches As A Unified Platform

The festival consolidates years of experience in screenings, cultural exchange and regional collaboration into an annual platform celebrating Asian cinema and storytelling.

2019 – 2025
Screenings & Collaborations Across Regional Asian Markets
Inspired by Years of Cultural Exchange Across Asia

From 2019 to 2025, we actively strengthened cultural exchange and regional collaboration across Asia through film festivals, international screenings, and creative industry partnerships. We have brought Indonesian films to Beijing cinemas and festivals while also introducing Chinese productions to audiences in Indonesia and Southeast Asia through curated screenings and cultural events.

Working alongside embassies, cinemas, and industry partners, we continue to create opportunities for filmmakers, encourage cross-border co-productions, and connect the creative industries of China, Indonesia, and the wider Asian region through cinema and storytelling.

2019
Strengthening Cross-Border Collaboration and Network
Indonesia–China Co-Production

One of these landmark projects is Boundless Love, a featured production under China’s “One Belt One Road” initiative, supported by key Chinese government bodies. The project also involved collaboration with Badan Ekonomi Kreatif (BEKRAF), which was entrusted to formulate incentive policies and attract international film productions, particularly from China, into Indonesia.

With its demanding production scope and highly critical timeline, the project required strong regional coordination, cross-cultural communication, and experienced production support. Through strategic collaboration and local expertise, the project further reinforced the growing creative bridge between the Chinese and Indonesian film industries, paving the way for future international co-productions and long-term cultural exchange.

2016
Building the Network before Nanyang Film Festival Existed
The First Official China–Indonesia Film Exchange in 20 Years

In 2016, Nanyang Bridge Media made history by organizing the first official China–Indonesia film exchange event in two decades — the Chinese Film Screening and Masterclass, a 10-day tour across Jakarta and Bali.

The centerpiece was Professor Xie Fei, a legendary figure from the Beijing Film Academy, winner of the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival, and mentor to world-famous directors including Zhang Yimou. His screenings of award-winning films like Black Snow and Woman from the Lake of Scented Souls were so popular that audiences sat in the aisles just to be in the room. The event also featured a screening of Song of Tibet (2000) and an exclusive masterclass discussion.

This was more than a film event. It was a declaration of intent. Our CEO, Mr. Gandhi, used the platform to demonstrate Indonesia's opening film market to investors, bringing together top government officials, leading universities (Binus, UNAS), and major media teams including Metro TV and Xinhua. By connecting Indonesia's film community with one of China's greatest living filmmakers, Nanyang Bridge Media proved — for the first time — that it had the network, the vision, and the execution capability to be the definitive bridge between Indonesia and China's creative industries.

2015
Our Film Production Project
China’s Cinema Discovers Indonesia’s Paradise

When Millennium Oriental Film needed a tropical paradise for their adventure feature film "Island Dreamzzz", they needed more than a location — they needed a partner who understood both the Indonesian landscape and the Chinese production mindset. They found that partner in Nanyang Bridge Media.

We provided full end-to-end production service for the film, creating a strategic collaboration between Millennium Oriental Film and Indonesia's Tourism Ministry. Our team conducted script reviews, scouted locations across Bali, staffed the production crew, cast local talents, hired equipment, and managed all promotional activities — including product placements and government relations with the Bali government and local hotel and travel companies.

The result: Island Dreamzzz wrapped on time and on budget, with 10+ strategic brand placements (Baidu, Panorama Destination,
etc) across Indonesian and Chinese industries, 8+ regional press coverage on the production release, and regional diplomatic recognition involving local government and private sectors across both countries.
